August 28, 2006 - Sony has announced a new "pro-line" MiniDV tape that can record for up to 85 minutes, a full 22 minutes longer than their current tape. The tape, which was picked up from Sony’s Japan site by Newslaunches.com, appears to be shipping in two-pack bundles.
No information on the product has been made available on an English site at this time. The release does indicate, however, that Sony has continued research and development in the MiniDV media, despite an increasing market draw towards DVD and hard disk drive camcorders.
According to Newslaunches, the DVM85HD tapes will be made available in Japan by September 13th for 1500 yen (US$13).
