Sony UX1 Review Coming Soon - First Thoughts
Posted by Robin Liss
We just got a Sony AVCHD UX1 in a few minutes ago and shot some video with it casually. This if our first time looking at the video on a AVCHD camcorder. While we haven't fully tested it, and you'll have to wait for our full review, the video is pretty compressed but we're going to keep playing with it to get the best performance out of it. We're still kinda mixed on whether it's too compressed or not. The video is pretty saturated, but, it is certainly showing all the resolution in it's glory. Other than that no final word on the video performance or the low light performance yet, and don't take this as a final judgement. All this was shot in HQ mode. The new menu system is really slick though, and the combo focus ring is awsome, you can adjust it with only button control (no using the touch screen). You can press on the touch screen to switch between camera and VCR mode and that's pretty slick. I think it's going to do pretty well. The video won't be as good as HDV, but, the additional features like the ring, the mic jack, headphone jack, the ease of DVD recording might make up for it all. That's all for now - I wanted to just quickly post that we're looking at it. Look for the full UX1 review on Monday or Tuesday, we're going to work over the weekend to get it out to you ASAP. Oh, and we got the Canon HV10 (Review, Specs, Recent News, $814) in yesterday so you should be able to expect a review by the end of the day today. It's crazy in our office right now! The DCI team is working on all their Photokina prep and they have like five new models announced each day, while us at CCI finally have all these summer HD camcorders coming into the office for testing. It's such an exciting and energetic environment to be around! Technorati Tags:
