Just as the new Sony HDR-SR5 and HDR-SR7 high definition HDD camcorders are getting ready to ship, the company made up major upgrade option. The SR5, normally fitted with a 40GB HDD, is also available as the HDR-SR5c, with a 100GB HDD, the largest to date for a consumer camcorder. The upgrade will cost you a fair amount, going up from $1099 for the base model up to $1300 for the increased capacity, but many users may find that a good value. HDD camcorders offer a lot of convenience, but are limited by their short record times.
