October 16, 2006 - Yesterday, Transcend Information, Inc. announced a new 4GB SDHC Class 6 card. The SDHC card format has the potential to store up to 32GB of memory, though the current ceiling for cards on the consumer market is 16GB.  Transcend is positioning its new SDHC card for devices like Panasonic’s SDR-S150 (Review, Specs, $699.95) SD camcorder and Casio’s Exilim Z1000/Z600/S600 digital still cameras.

Transcend’s SDHC cards utilize NAND memory and include a mechanical write protection switch on the card to prevent accidental deletion of data.  The new cards are fully compatible with the SD 2.0 Standard, and support Class 6 (6Mbps) data transfer speeds.  The cards will ship in November 2006, but pricing has yet to be announced.
