Use your MiniDV Camcorder as a Backup Device

A Camcorder isn’t the first thing that springs to mind when I think of ways to backup my PC, but it does make some sort of sense. Especially for when you’re traveling and want to carry as little as possible. Jake Ludington has the skinny on a $46 product called Firestreamer DV that allows you to use your MiniDV camcorder to store up to 54GB of data on a single tape: a lot more than you’d get on a DVD or flash drive. There’s a 30-day demo version available. This isn’t a new product, though: it’s been around for a bit. And if you wan tto get really old skool, I reviewed a device that would use analog VHS tapes as a backup device on the Amiga more years ago than I would care to remember… Technorati Tags:
