March 6, 2006 - Following a trend that seems to be sweeping the video industry, Sony has released an update to their Vegas 6 video editing software that improves video encoding for MPEG-4 AVC devices such as Apple iPods.

“This Vegas 6 update is more than just a maintenance release,” claims Dave Chaimson, vice president of marketing, Sony Media Software. “The free update for registered users provides a tremendous improvement to AVC support.” While Vegas 6 already supports PlayStation Portables (PSPs), the upgrade will offer new features like high-definition AVC encoding for streaming delivery, computer monitor playback, and digital signage, and AVC editing options directly from the timeline.

Sony has also stepped up their iPod support by including a special video format export and a render template. The previous version of Vegas had similar tools for Sony’s own PSP.
