Viacom dissed in YouTube lawsuit
Posted by Karen M Cheung
The U.S. District Court recently denied punitive damages to Viacom after the company sued Google-owned YouTube for $1 billion for claims of massive intentional copyright infringement in March 2007. The statutory penalty can be as much $150,000 for each violation, according the Silicon Alley Insider. Had it been proven, that $1 billion amount would be about right, considering the 160,000 violations Viacom cited. The lawsuit is scheduled to continue throughout the year.[via Silicon Alley Insider / Viacom]
