October 16, 2006 - Pure Digital Technologies, maker of the CVS single-use camcorder, announced yesterday in San Francisco that they had established partnerships with video sharing services that make uploading video a virtually one-touch process. Pure Digital’s new partnerships with Google Video and Grouper Networks now enable users to use software built directly into the camcorder to connect to the video sharing web sites. The new functionality is now integrated into the Pure Digital Point & Shoot introduced in May of this year. According to Pure Digital, sharing video using this camcorder can be done by simply plugging the camcorder into a PC or Mac via the built-in “USB arm” then uploading the video using onboard software. In addition to sharing on Google Video and Grouper Networks, the new software includes options for one-step emailing, video greeting, and custom-edited movie mixes. In a statement, Grouper Networks President Josh Felser said "Integrating Grouper's video sharing service inside the Pure Digital camcorders is a groundbreaking step in bringing video sharing to the mass market."
Integrated video sharing will likely become more widespread as the Internet becomes just one of many mainstream viewing platforms The Pure Digital Point and Shoot is a simple and inexpensive unit with a 2x digital zoom, a 1.4-inch screen, and rudimentary playback and delete features.
The 30-minute camcorder retains its $129.99 MSRP but adds the new sharing software, and a new 60-minute version which will retail for an MSRP of $169.00
