Video history: the First Commercial VCR

And you thought your video recorder was big and expensive… This beast was the first commercial video recorder: the Ampex VRX-1000 (AKA the Mark IV) was released in 1956 and was a steal at $50,000. It was the first commercially available video recorder that used rotating scanning heads and FM encoding, technologies that are at the heart of every tape-based video recorder today.
