November 14, 2006 - Yesterday, Vision Effects, Inc. announced FieldsKit 2.0, an update to their video post-production deinterlacing tool. The FieldsKit application is driven by FieldsKit Deinterlacer, a plug-in compatible with a wide range of professional and consumer NLEs (non-linear editors) including Adobe After Effects 5.0 and Adobe Premiere Pro 1.0 or later and Apple Final Cut Pro 4.0 or later. FieldsKit uses the company’s “proprietary field reconstruction and adaptive motion techniques” to build full frames from conventional interlaced video.FieldsKit also includes a Reinterlacer plug-in, which allows you generate interlaced video from footage that originated as progressive. FieldsKit’s Pulldown plug-in provides a way for editors to remove and create pulldown with support for both 3:2 and 3:2 PA pulldown modes.
FieldsKit 2.0 adds a new motion estimation technique to both its Deinterlacer and Reinterlacer modes, Floating point image support for After Effects 7.0, bug fixes associated with the Reinterlacer and Pulldown plugging, and a render-only licensing option. In addition, FieldsKit can now be applied to a layer in Adobe AfterEffects 7.0 with the results reflecting effects previously applied to the layer.
Carry-over features in the new release include 8 and 16 bits per channel processing, multiprocessor support, and compatibility with both NTSC and PAL footage. Each plug-in includes a number of options for further customizing video output quality.
The FieldsKit After Effects-compatible plug-in for either Mac OS X or PC, retails for $89.95 while an upgrade from version 1 costs $29.97. Render-only licenses for After Effects 6.0 and up, combustion 3.0 and up, and eyeon's Render-Slave (4.04e, 5.0 and up) is priced at $17.99.
