Watch home movies on your TiVo

Posted by Richard Baguley

If you’ve got a TiVo at home for recording TV programs, you can now use it to watch your home movies as well: PVRBlog.com reports that the latest version of the TiVo software includes the ability to transfer videos from a PC to the TiVo for viewing. They do have to be properly encoded to be viewable, though: they have to be MPEG-2 files with a certain resolution and a 29.97 per second frame rate. This means that it should be easy to transfer video from a MiniDV camcorder, but some flash-based camcorders (which may have different frame rates) may not work. TiVo themselves give the specifics here.
