Adobe Systems, makers of the hit multimedia programs Photoshop, Premier, Director, and After Effects is adding a new member of the family, Encore DVD. Created for the Windows platform the program brings high-end DVD authoring capabilities to the PC. The new software package was unveiled at NAB 2003 and is slated to be ready a few months from now.

Bryan Lamkin, senior vice president of digital imaging and video products at Adobe Systems says, 'Adobe Encore DVD opens the door for video professionals to take advantage of powerful DVD features and deliver their video projects in the format embraced by both consumers and professionals.'

With Encore DVD, you can do video editing, menu creation, and of course burn to DVD. Its $549 price tag makes it a good buy for any one in video looking to do professional DVDs. The new member of the family is ready to play with its siblings allowing you to transfer video projects straight from Adobe's Premiere, or create or edit the DVD menus in Photoshop. But the big news is how it integrates other Adobe programs. Users will be able to edit menus with Photoshop from within Encore DVD, instead of jumping from program to program, which will speed up the process of creating a DVD. It can also integrate with Adobe's special-effects program After Effects.

Premiere already includes a basic DVD authoring program in the form of a bundled version of Sonic DVDit LE. Adobe says they will continue to bundle DVDit LE with version 6.5 of the video editing program, but also points out that DVDit is no substitute for itıs professional strength program for those who want professional DVDs.
