Archos, Inc., recently introduced AVCam, the world's first camera and camcorder attachment for a portable audio and video player. The AVCam combines a 3x optical Ricoh zoom lens, and a 3.3-megapixel CCD, with an MP3 recorder and player, and an 80-gigabyte hard drive.

The new AVCam was designed for use with any of the AV300 series personal-portable video players. The AVCam gives consumers the ability to capture and carry up to 40,000 3.3-megapixel photos (less at 2,048 x 1,536 maximum resolution) and record up to 80 hours of MPEG-4 quality video.

''Archos was the first to converge high quality audio and video capabilities in one portable device, and is taking this market to a new level,'' said Hyder Rabbani, Archos president and chief operating officer. ''With the addition of the AVCam, the AV300 series brings multimedia capture and creation to a device that is a true portable entertainment experience.''

The AV300 series portable players have 3.8-inch color LCD screen, and connect to a TV or monitor. Video and photos can be transferred to a personal computer through a USB 2 connection. White balance and exposure controls on the AVcam are all automatic. The AVCam is priced at $199.95, and is available for purchase at the Archos web site.
