With all the talk about HD surrounding this years National Association of Broadcasters conference, it only makes sense for vendors to roll out their new HD peripherals. Add Aurora Video Systems to that ever growing list with the introduction of their new Pipe and Pipe Pro capture cards.

Pipe and Pipe pro are capture cards in line with solutions offered by AJA and Matrox. These new cards from Aurora are the first to be designed around their in house developed PCI controller. Aurora stresses their commitment to future proofing by allowing the new cards to be upgraded via a simple Flash update.

Aurora’s Pipe line was designed with Final Cut Pro users in mind. The new cards leverage Final Cut Pro’s Real Time Extreme format and work with all Quick Time files.

Extended desktop is a core feature of all Pipe products and allows the user to view the project even in applications that do not natively support the Quick Time format such as Combustion and Photo Shop.

As HD becomes widely adopted as the premiere production format, it will surely come down in price. Companies like Aurora Video Systems will play a large role in the democratization of HD by providing low cost post production solutions.

The entry level Pipe and Pipe SDI are available for $499, Pipe Pro is available for $799, and Pipe HD is available for $1,499.
