Canon has announced the Elura 40MC, their latest matchbox, vertical MiniDV camcorder. Canon's biggest upgrade to the camcorder is the ability to record MJPEG Video.
The camcorder has a 10x optical and 200x digital zoom. The Elura 40MC has a 680K 1/4 in. CCD and a 2 in. LCD screen. The camcorder can takes stills at both 1024 x 768 and 640 x 480 pixel resolutions. Similar to the Sony DCR-TRV830, the Elura 40MC can connect to an external Canon photo printer to print digital stills on the go.
As with similar Canon camcorders, the Elura 40MC allows the user to manually adjust the white balance or shutter speed. The camcorder includes many special effects, here's a list: Art, Black & White, Sepia, Mosaic, Ball, Cube, Wave, Color Mask or Mirror. Fade effects, which create unique scene transitions, include Wipe, Corner, Jump, Flip, Puzzle, Zig Zag, Beam, Tide, Fade Trigger and standard Black. The camcorder also includes a neat stitch assist feature, which aides the user in creating 360 degree panoramic stills.
The added MJPEG video allows the consumer to record 10 seconds of 320 x 240 pixel resolution video or 30 seconds of 160 x 120 resolution video onto Secure Digital cards using the camcorders SD slot
The camcorder has composite in and out ports, a Firewire port, and a USB port. The camcorder also includes a Lanc, Control-L port. The Elura 40MC will be available in May for $999. The Elura 40MC will also be available with the Canon CP-10 Card Photo Printer for $1198.
