Canon Japan has announced the new Mega Pixel MiniDV FV-M10, what appears to be a brand new model for Canon. The FV-M10 looks unlike any other model they have released before. It's a horizontal camcorder, slightly similar to the ZRs however it is much longer and more 'classical' looking. It does not look anything like any of their previous models.

Based on the Japanese Press release, the camcorder features a 1.33 Mega Pixel 1/4 in. CCD, a 16 x optical zoom, a 3.5 in. LCD screen, a focus ring, progressive photo mode, analog to digital pass-through, and DV Messenger Software. The camcorder includes new "MACS" processing, which apparently separates the color processing of the camcorder for brighter, more vivid colors.

The camcorder also includes still photo capability, saving digital stills to SD cards at up to 1,280 x 960 pixel resolution. The FV-M10 includes direct print capability which allows you to directly hook the camcorder up to a printer via the USB port and print, with out having to go through a computer. The FV-M10 includes a super night mode, assisted by a LED light.

The FV-M10 can also do insert editing, animation recording, and record in ''3D Mode''. The FV-M10 can also record MPEG video to the SD card. The camcorder will be available in Japan on March 3rd, however we were unable to get a price on the unit. When it will be available in the US is known. Typically, Canon rolls out camcorders in different markets throughout the world at the same time, so it is surprising that we have not yet seen a US announcement. When or if one is coming is unknown.
