Canon Japan has announced a new Optura camcorder. The MiniDV IXY DV M has a 1.3 Megapixel CCD. There has been much speculation of what camcorder would replace the Optura 100MC which has been discontinued for almost 6 months.

The camcorder can record digital stills to SD cards with a maximum resolution of 1280 x 960 pixels. The camcorder can also record MJPEG movies to the SD card at a maximum resolution of 320 x 240 pixels.

The new camcorder has a 10x optical zoom. We don't know all the details about the camcorder because the press release was in Japanese. It is very likely that this camcorder will be brought over to the US to replace the Optura 100MC, although we don't know what model name it will be assigned. Canon is very good at bringing their Japanese camcorders over to the US.
