Deja View, Inc. announced their Deja View camcorder, the first camcorder small enough to clip onto a pair of eyeglasses or a hat, will be available at most major electronics stores for the holidays. With a retail price of $399 the Deja View shoots video of selected action 30 seconds before the record button is pressed.
''Our cameras are all wearable, which means they are hands free,'' said Sid Reich, Deja View founder and president. ''They are ideally suited to a variety of applications, including recreation, business, education, travel and tourism, government, the military and law enforcement.''
The inch long camera/microphone unit is attached by wire to a PDA-sized remote unit stored in coat pocket. When the user aims the camera an ''after-the-fact'' scanning feature activates, writing both video and audio to one gigabyte of removable flash memory. By the time the user presses the record button on the remote unit, up to 30 seconds of video and audio already have been captured.
Specs:
-4 hours of video and audio recording.
-Video quality at CIF (320x240) at 30 frames per second.
-From 64 megabytes to one gigabyte flash memory.
-Rechargeable battery in remote unit provides up to eight hours of power for a maximum of 250 video captures.
-A supplied 110v charger is similar to those used with cellular phones.
-With a USB cable or flash memory reader along with Deja View’s software, the user can download the video/audio clips to a PC or Mac. There also is output directly to TV and VCRs, or to DVD burner via RCA jacks.
-File viewing is possible using Deja View’s software or Windows Media Player, RealPlayer and other industry-standard players.
-DirectConnect ($49.95) reads flash memory and sends video, video with audio or still pictures directly to a TV or VCR. It can be used with all Deja View cameras or any digital camera, and is compatible with most media, including CompactFlash Type I and II, MicroDrive, SmartMedia, MultiMediaCard, SecureDigital and Memory Stick.
