Gateway has announced the DV-S20 Pocket Multi-Cam, a tapeless tiny digital camcorder. The DV-S20 Pocket Multi-Cam records MPEG4 video to internal memory, and is Gateway's first entry into the camcorder market.
The DV-S20 includes a 2 Megapixel CCD which produces 1,600 x 1,200 pixel resolution stills. The 64 MB of internal memory can hold up to 18 minutes of 25 frames per second MPEG4 video at 320 x 240 pixel resolution. The camcorder also excepts SD cards, and the company reports can record up to 144 minutes of video on larger sized SD cards.
The camcorder can be hooked up to a TV, though the connection protocol was not specified. The DV-S20 includes Pinnacle Studio 8 SE and is powered by two AA batteries. The model measures 3.5 x 2.5 x 1.2 and includes an LCD screen. The camcorder includes no optical zoom and only a 2.5 x digital zoom. Although the camcorder is small and cheap, the video quality is extremely untested and may be very poor quality - however we can't make judgments until we see some tests.
The DV-S20 will be available on October 2 for $199.95.
