Hitachi has announced plans to ship a DVD-RAM recording camcorder this month. The camcorder features 3 CCDs, is the first working DVD-RAM recording professional camcorder. The camcorder was shown previously at the National Association of Broadcasters Convention in April of 2002.
The camera part of the camcorder is Hitachi's Z-3000, which is not a new product. The recorder is the CR-D10, which can record and hour of MPEG2 video to a 4.7 GB DVD-RAM disk. The two parts will be sold as one package.
The camcorder features 3, large 2/3 in. professional quality CCDs. The DVD-RAM format enables the camcorder to delete, move, and edit scenes in the camcorder.
The new camcorder transfers video from the camcorder to the computer using a standard USB connection. Regarding the camcorder, Hitachi Broadcast & Professional Vice President Jack Breitenbucher sated in an earlier press release that ''In combination with their low price point, we foresee our new camera and recorder becoming essential tools for today’s news and event videographer.''
The CR-D10/Z-3000 will be available this month for an MSRP of $5,990.
