JVC Corporation Japan has announced the January 2004 release of the CU-VH1, a HD video player designed to work with the GR-HD1, a high definition camcorder. With a built in 3.5 inch monitor, the CU-VH1 HD player combines portability with dubbing and editing capability.
Using a FireWire connection, users can dub digital video images without the quality of the image degrading in HD, SD, or DV formats. The CU-VH1 is designed to view playback in HD (750/30p), SD progressive-wide-screen (525/60p) and DV image (525/60i). Any camcorder with a FireWire terminal can be used with the CU-VH1 to perform quality digital video format dubbing. In addition, it can also be used for dubbing from a digital high-vision video deck (D-VHS).
The CU-VH1 may be used to convert SD images and video to HD quality. Conversely, it is also able to convert HD images and video for viewing on conventional televisions.
The player measures 8.3”(l) x 6”(w) x 2”(h) and weighs in at 2.2 pounds, not including battery and tape. The CU-VH1 is slated for release next month. No price has yet been disclosed.
