JVC has announced the GR-HD1, the first high definition camcorder in the United States. Less than two weeks ago the company announced the camcorder in Japan. The GR-HD1 is the first consumer camcorder to record high definition video, and this is possibly one of the largest announcements in the camcorder industry in years.
The camcorder is the same as the one announced by JVC Victor in Japan. We broke down all the features of the GR-HD1 in last weeks article here. The GR-HD1 records high definition quality video to MiniDV tapes by using MPEG2 recording technology. It includes one 1/3 in. CCD.
JVC said that the GR-HD1 will be available in the US in May for $3499.95.
