JVC-Victor, the parent company and Japanese version of JVC America, has announced the GR-DX300 MiniDV vertical, matchbox style camcorder. The new camcorder model includes a 2 Megapixel CCD. This is the first non Sony camcorder to include a 2 Megapixel CCD.
The camcorder records up to 1,600 x 1,200 pixel resolution stills to SD cards. This makes JVC the first camcorder by a manufacturer other than Sony to produce a 2 Megapixel CCD camcorder. The 2 Megapixel CCD is 1/4 in. in size. The first 2 Megapixel CCD camcorder was the DCR-IP220, however the Sony DCR-TRV70 (Review, Specs, $744.99) and DCR-TRV80 also include 2 Megapixel CCDs.
The camcorder can also record MPEG-4 video to the SD cards and it includes a USB slot for transferring the MPEG-4 video and the stills to your computer. It appears the camcorder has a 10x optical zoom, however all this information is from an online translation, so we are not 100% confident in it's accuracy. We do not know about pricing and availability of the camcorder.
