JVC Ships GY-DV5000U MiniDV Professional / Consumer Camcorder

JVC has started shipping the JVC GY-DV5000U professional / consumer MiniDV camcorder. The GY-DV5000U is a shoulder mounted full size camcorder featuring 3 1/2 in. CCDs. The camcorder is an upgrade to the JVC GY-DV500, however the new camcorder can now record to DVCAM tapes as well as MiniDV tapes, all these features and more for under $5000 - the GY-DV5000U is bound to be a popular camcorder.

JVC displayed the camcorder at WEVA over the summer, however the camcorder just became available today. 12-bit A/D converter. The camcorders CCDs are advertised as being ultra sensitive with a minimum illumination of .4 lux. The camcorder is reported to produce 800 lines of resolution, with a 63dB Signal to Noise ratio. The -bit A/D conversion provides more range between bright and dark colors, enabling the quality low light performance.

The GY-DV5000U includes a 2.5 in. LCD screen plus a black and white viewfinder. The camcorder has two XLR inputs plus a Firewire In / Out port and other standard ins and outs.

The camcorder is considered professional grade. With out the standard lens, the camcorder has an MSRP of $4,995 - which also includes a microphone. The standard lens for the camcorder includes a 16x optical zoom, which carries an MSRP of $6,995. Since the lens is separate, you can purchase a variety of lenses for the GY-DV5000U.

The GY-DV5000U is a replacement for the JVC GY-DV500 - a very popular camcorder. The JVC has been adopted by many prosumer videographers because it offers all the features of a pro camcorder at a pretty low performance. Reviews of the GY-DV500 were very positive so many people expect the GY-DV5000U to be a high quality camcorder as well.
