Tight LLC is poised to make a splash in the pool of portable playback devices with the December 2003 debut of the TAZ I. The device runs on a Macromedia Flash based operating system, and comes standard with a 60 gigabyte hard drive. This translates into 'intuitive' organization and storage 150 cds of music, 20 hours of pre-recorded television, and 20 feature films. The battery plays nine hours of video or twenty hours of audio on a high resolution 4 inch video screen, with premium sound output – the Tight trademark; a company known for their headphones.
In addition to the standard audio/video formats, including MP3, MPEG, and DivX, the manufactures web site states, 'TAZ I is so technologically advanced that it is capable of decoding and outputting a high definition video signal in any high definition format.'
This includes PAL, a frequent source of frustration for North Americans.
Making the most of portability, the TAZ I has an array of input/output options to connect to everything from a camcorder, to a PC, to a home entertainment center. With the purchase of an expansion pack, users have the option of recording live television, ala TiVo or NVIDIA’s All In Wonder card.
