Panasonic has released a three CCD sub $1000 camcorder - the PV-DV70. The PV-DV70 includes three 1/6 in. 410K CCDs and carries many of the professional features of the higher PV-DV953 (Review, Specs, Recent News, $899.88).
This pricing move is huge - Panasonic previously had broken the price barrier for 3 CCD camcorders with the announcement of the PV-DV953 at the Consumer Electronics Show - pricing it at $1,500 - $1,000 cheaper than any previous model - a huge move and certainly some of the biggest news to come out of the camcorder industry. Now Panasonic has broken the price barrier again, pricing the PV-DV70 at under $1,000 - an amazingly low price.
The camcorder can record up to 1.2 Mega pixel stills to SD cards. Interestingly the SD slot is in the LCD screen. The camcorder achieves the 1.2 Mega pixel resolution by using pixel shifting. The LCD screen is 2.5 in. while the zoom is 10x optical. The camcorder has a manual focus ring, and aperture, shutter speed, white balance, are controlled by the exposure dial.
The Panasonic PV-DV70 should be available sometime between April and June for around $1,000.
