Sharp introduces newly designed Viewcam line of digital camcorders

The new palm-sized "Z" series of Viewcams features a consumer-friendly design that is easy to grip, easy to shoot and easy to carry. Combined with the new design, the new "Z" line, models VL-Z1U, VL-Z3U, VL-Z5U and VL-Z7U utilize the Viewcam's one-handed styling and free-angle shooting swivel body, making it simple to get great shots from a comfortable arm position. Each model is equipped with a 500x digital zoom and a 10x optical zoom and a 2.5-inch CG Silicon view screen, delivering a superior view of the subject.

The CG Silicon display provides the customer with extremely high resolution viewing for moving and still images as well as a user-friendly display layout, featuring video playback and status menus simultaneously. In addition, CG Silicon screens are optimized for use in bright sunlight. The camcorders are compact and lightweight – among the world"s smallest, with dimensions of 3 5/32 (W) X 3 13/24 (H) X 4 1/16 (D), for a total volume of less than 375 cubic centimeters or 22.5 cubic inches. The Viewcams are also equipped with a new slim battery and a strategically placed hand strap.

Models VL-Z3U, VL-Z5U and VL-Z7U are equipped with 2.5-inch color CG Silicon screen, and an SD Card slot as well as accessories that provide easy image transfer between the Viewcam and a PC via USB port. The VL-Z5U and VL-Z7U both include an 8 MB SD card and a remote control. The VL-Z7U also has 1.3 megapixel image capture, a built-in flash, and a zoom microphone shoe. The VL-Z1U is the most basic model in the new Viewcam line, and is equipped with a 2.5-inch CG Silicon screen and a black and white viewfinder.

The VL-Z7U will be available in February for a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $899.95. The VL-Z5U will be available in March for an MSRP of $799.95. The VL-Z3U will be available in April for an MSRP of $699.95 and the VL-Z1U will be available in May for an MSRP of $599.95.
