"The WDVA was formed to provide industry professionals, interested consumers and corporations a trade association specifically focused on digital video," said WDVA president Roger Strukhoff. "We will do all we can to promote growth in the use of digital video, provide research and information to our members, and provide as many benefits as possible," continued Strukhoff.
In addition, the WDVA plans to create a monthly magazine and trade show. To honor members' work during the calendar year the WDVA has created the World DiVA Award and will hold an annual event celebrating the recipients and their achievements, both technical and non-technical.
Digital video is a much more economical way to produce feature stories, broadcast/cable shows, commercials and corporate training/promotional pieces. Eventually all theatrical exhibitors will refit their venues with equipment to show DV feature pictures. At that time feature pictures could be distributed by the push of a button over broadband lines, rather than the current method of physically sending film prints.
"It's an exciting time in this industry. Costs to produce and distribute are falling and many creative independents will be able to take advantage to bring their vision to screens around the world," said, Jeffrey S. Elkins, WDVA chairman and CEO.
More information on the WDVA is available on their website.
