Panasonic Announces Combo DVD-RAM/DVD-R Drive

On Thursday, Panasonic announced a new DVD Burner Drive, a combination DVD-R drive and DVD-RAM drive. The LF-D321U drive includes both DVD authoring software and video editing software. It is targeted to the consumer market.

The drive can record on write once DVD-R disks. The DVD-R disks can hold up to 4.7 GB of data. DVD-R disks are designed to play on stand alone DVD players and can play in almost all computer DVD drives. The drive can also record onto DVD-RAM disks. DVD-RAM disks can hold up to 9.8 GB of storage, however the disks can not play in stand alone DVD players and are not compatible with most computer DVD drives.

The drive is expected to retail for under $600.
