Panasonic Japan has announced a new 3 CCD MiniDV camcorder, the NV-MX5000. Using new technology, the camcorder apparently shifts the CCDs to give a still resolution of 2048 x 1496 pixels, better still resolution than any other camcorder available. This is a big breakthrough in digital still photography in camcorders.
The NV-MX5000 has a 10x optical zoom. The camcorder has 3 CCDs at around 800K pixel resolution each. Each CCD has 640K effective video resolution and 700K effective still resolution.
The camcorder has a pop up flash and like mentioned earlier, it can take stills at 2048 x 1496 pixel resolution. This still resolution will be the highest available on a digital camcorder. The stills are saved to SD cards. Stills are transferred from the camcorder to the computer via USB 2.0.
The camcorder will be available on July 1st.
