Philips has announced two stand alone DVD recorders the DVD1500 and DVD1000. The models are designed to record onto DVD+RW discs which can play in new and old DVD players.
Philips did not release pricing on the two models, however it seems the two are similar. DVD1000 is silver while the DVD1500 is black and includes a remote. They include a built in TV tuner and variable bit rate encoding which enhances the picture quality by adjusting the data rate based on the amount of action. Consumers can record up to 4 hours of video on a single sided 4.7 GB disk or double that on a double sided 9.4 GB disk.
The unit's also include a IEEE 1394 DV FireWire port for perfect transfer of digital video to the unit. The unit also has a component analog in.
