Roxio, the company behind such software titles as Easy Media Creator and Toast Titanium, has announced a new an improved version of their Video Wave editing software. Video Wave 7 Professional ($79 MSRP) is a software application that enables the user to edit video and burn their movies to DVD all within one application environment.
Roxio has included many new features in their latest release that should contribute to a richer user experience. Video Wave 7 Professional now includes a time-line editing mode that supports up to 14 tracks. Enhanced text editing has been added and allows the user to have complete control over text attributes such as font, effect, motion path, style, lighting texture etc. A new audio editing function allows the user to trim audio and even handle some more advanced features such as setting key points for raising and lowering volume. Other new features include, Enhanced Storyline Mode, Advanced DVD Authoring, and many others.
Although Roxio is calling their new program Video Wave 7 Professional, it seems to be targeted squarely at consumers and first timers. Users should know that Video Wave 7 Professional is a Windows only program. Mac users should not be too disappointed because Apple’s own I-Life media suite is very similar and is included on all new Macs. Apple’s i-life suite includes i-Movie, i-DVD, i-Photo, i-Tunes, and Garage Band. The i-life suite can be purchased for $49 (MSRP).
Roxio has struck an odd cord with this product by including some features found on truly professional editing applications such as advanced text manipulation, but leaving out many features that prosumers and professionals desire such as the ability to have more than 14 tracks on the time line. Video Wave 7 Professional seems like an excellent program for the beginning video editor who uses the windows platform but Mac users and true professionals will have to look elsewhere.
