SanDisk, a popular flash memory maker has announced that it will team up with Sony to develop the next generation of Sony's proprietary flash memory format, used in camcorders, the Memory Stick. In addition to aiding in the development of the future Memory Sticks, SanDisk will also be able to sell their own Memory Sticks. A few weeks ago, Lexmark announced that they would be selling Sony Memory Sticks.

This announcement lends further credibility to Sony's drive to make the Memory Stick standard. By having more companies produce the format, it becomes less of a "Sony Only" product and will lead to more Memory Stick compartible devices most likely. Other camcorder manufactures use their own flash memory in their camcorders such as Secure Digital and CF.
