Sharp Japan Announces New Viewcam:VL-MG10

Sharp Japan has announces a new MiniDV Viewcam, the VL-MG10. The camcorder has a 1/4 in. 1.33 MegaPixel CCD allowing it to take high resolution stills.

The VL-MG10 includes a 10 x optical zoom. The VL-MG10 follows Sharp's Viewcam form factor, with the LCD and the tape recorder rotating separately from the camera part of the camcorder. The camcorder includes Firewire, S-Video, Composite Video, and a headphone and microphone jack.

Using the MegaPixel CCD the camcorder can save stills at SXGA and VGA resolution. The camcorder saves the stills to SD card. Stills can be transferred from the camcorder to the computer using USB. As well as being able to take still pictures, the VL-MG10 can save MPEG-4 video to the SD card. Sharp did not specify the resolution or time length allowed for in these clips.

The camcorder will be available June 1st for a retail price of 145,000 yen.
