Sharp Japan today announced a new adition to it's Japanese MiniDV camcorder line, the VL-DD110. As Sharp has done with other camcorder recently, the camera part and the video recording part of the camcorder are seperate. This allows the digital camera portion of the camcorder to be used completely independent of the video recording portion.
The VL-DD110 has a 10x optical zoom lens with a 680K pixel CCD. The VL-DD110 has a 16MB SD card included for saving digital stills to. The press release says that the camcorder can take 2,448 x 1,632 resolution stills. This might mean that the camcorder has 3 CCDs, because a 680K CCD can't achieve that resolution. We'll look into this question and post it later.
The camcorder will be available in Japan on August 8th for approx. Please note that the details of this article were pulled from an online translation of a Japanese press release so we are not positive as to their accuracy.
