With the release of two new high speed DVD+R Dual RW DVD burners, Sony is covering all the bases in the ongoing DVD+R, DVD-R and DVD RW battle. Each of the two new offerings support 8X DVD+R recording and 4X DVD+RW and DVD-R recording. In addition, the recorders burn 2X DVD-RW, 40X CD-R and 24X CD-RW speeds. These features makes Sony’s latest DVD drive among the most versatile in the market.
In the press release, Robert DeMoulin, Marketing Manager for Branded Storage products at Sony Electronics' IT Products Division said ''Sony is the pioneer of dual-format DVD drives. While others are only just now introducing dual-format DVD drives, we have released our fourth generation of Dual RW burners. With the new 530 models, we are continuing to provide consumers and businesses the utmost in recording functionality and playback.''
While Sony’s new dual DVD drives offer plenty of features, Sony placed an emphasis on their ability to transfer VHS formatted cassette tapes over to the DVD format with ease. ''DVD burners are appealing primarily to consumers who are looking to upgrade the multimedia capabilities of their computers, but also to commercial users looking to improve their backup systems,'' Said Wolfgang Schlichting of IDC.
Sony is including creation software with both dual DVD drives to complete the package. The software additions include Sonic™ RecordNow® mastering softwar, Sonic™ DLA packet-writing software, CyberLink PowerDVD®DVD-Video playing software and the MUSICMATCH® Jukebox personal music system.
The internal DRU-530A Dual RW drive will arrive just in time for Christmas with a retail price of around $270. The external model, the DRX-530UL arrives just a month later with a price tag in the range of $350. Both the DRU-530A Dual RW and the DRX-530UL Dual RW are available wherever Sony products are sold.
