In an interview at the National Association of Broadcasters annual convention in Las Vegas on Monday, Robert Christie of Sony indicated that we would see a replacement for the DSR-PD150 camcorder within the year.

Robert H. Christie, Senior Public Strategist for Sony Corporate Communications stated that ''We will see a PD-150 within the year. Most likely pre-NAB next year.'' When asked why they have waited so long to replace the PD150, Christie stated that sales of the unit remain very strong. Christie said that even today, regardless of the long period of time that the PD150 has been available, the camcorders are still backordered three months. Christie also denied that the Panasonic AG-DVX100 has hurt PD-150 sales.

The DSR-PD150 is the least expensive camcorder available in the Sony professional line and is available for around $3,500. The camcorder has been widely accepted, especially by the event news gathering industry for situations where they are looking for a rugged, ultra portable camcorder.
