Sony Japan has announced the DCR-PC105K, the same camcorder which Sony Germany announced a few days earlier. Sony did now however announce a DCR-PC103 companion, like Sony Germany did. The new camcorder features a 2.5 in. LCD screen and a Megapixel CCD.
The camcorder includes a 1/4.7 in. 1,070,000 pixel CCD. The camcorder can record 1,024 x 768 pixel resolution stills. The camcorder can record MPEG-1 Video (it isn't MPEG-2 as was reported in the story about the German camcorders) at 320 x 240 and 160 x 112 pixel resolutions. The DCR-PC105K includes Nightshot capability as well.
The DCR-PC105K includes the expanded widescreen 16:9 capability which the DCR-PC105 in German did. However we do not know if this is a new technology or the same technology as was included on some of the 2003 MiniDV camcorders. The press release did not give many details regarding the widescreen capability.
Typically camcorders announced in Japan and other countries make it to the US however we don't know when or if a US version of this camcorder will be announced in the states.
