News.com is reporting that Sony is close to announcing higher capacity Memory Sticks. According to an anonymous source, News.com says that Sony is planning on releasing 256MB, 512MB and 1GB capacity Memory Sticks.

The new Memory Sticks apparently will be called Memory Stick Pro, however they will not be compatible with all existing Memory Stick devices. The new cards will also be designed to perform at faster speeds, enabling them to handle video much easier.

News.com reported that one source said that the new Memory Stick Pro cards would be available in the third quarter of 2003.
