The MX-1 is a pretty versatile unit targeted at the prosumer level. It functions as a A/B/C/D (3 VTRs & 1 title maker) mixer with 239 different types of wipes. It also has the standard FX like B/W, B/W negative, Colour negative, flips, mosaic, strobe , paint and solariztion allowing for one or all FX to be used on a video source. All wipes and FX are controllable with the speed or amount of FX applied. You can also program wipe patterns into a sequence so that every time you hit the take button the next programmed wipe will take effect.

It also has a pretty good Chroma Key where you can key out any colour you select from your video source. There is also a still store (freeze frame) included. The MX-1 comes with both composite and S-Video Ins/Outs as well as stereo audio. It also has two GPI inputs so you can hook it up to other gear like a title tool or edit controller, that way they can all act together. A good companion for the MX-1 is the Videonics AB-1 edit controller seeing that it was designed to work with the MX-1.

I personally used it for corporate videos in an A/B roll capacity during editing and as a pretty good live to tape switcher for a music video. That is a good target for it, corporate or wedding videographers. All in all it is a pretty good unit for the money.
